Removable Denture

Dentures are artificial replacements for missing natural teeth. Tooth decay, gum disease, and facial injuries can lead to tooth loss.

Some dentures replace some missing teeth. Others replace all teeth, gums, surrounding tissues, and entire arch.

Lost teeth can drive facial muscles to sag over time. Dentures are developed to help fill out your facial shape and improve your appearance and confidence. They also make it more comfortable to eat, chew and speak normally.

What Is the Removable Dentures Procedure?

Missing teeth drive a limitation while eating or speaking. They strain the remaining teeth and can cause a shift in your bite.’

Dentures are made of a base plate with artificial teeth. The scale is created of plastic, nylon, metal, or a mixture. The dentures have clips that let them be connected to your mouth.

Removable Dentures: Step by Step Guide

1. Initial Consultation

The dentist will evaluate the overall condition of your mouth and jaw and take an X-ray or CT scan. The dentist will make impression on your jaws. Your dentist will then send the jaw and tooth sections or bridges attached to the lab to make customized prostheses.

2. Anesthesia and extraction

When you attend the treatment to have your implants placed, the dentist will deliver you an anaesthetic injection so that the complete procedure is painless. If teeth must be extracted, this can usually be done simultaneously. Your mouth is then totally cleaned to clear bacteria and damaged tissue.

3. Making the mold.

Once the teeth are designed, your dentist will make a mold to construct the denture that specially fits your teeth. The mold will then be sent to the laboratory. The lab will use the mold to produce exact look-alikes of the extracted teeth.

4. Fitting the dentures.

The denture is positioned into the jawbone or the implants, and the gums are stitched and sealed over the implant.

What Are The Different Types Of Removable Dentures?

• Full Dentures

Complete dentures are created to replace all your upper or lower sets of teeth.

Complete dentures are the final alternative after all other tooth restorations are considered hopeless.

These dentures are entirely customized and reform the shape and look of natural teeth. They also improve chewing, meaning you can crush, grind, and eat food again.

Complete dentures don’t stop jawbone density loss; sometimes, incorrectly fit teeth can contribute to it. A dental implant will keep the jawbone density and prevent it from losing after tooth loss.

• Fixed Partial Dentures (Implant-Supported Bridge)

Fixed partial dentures (FPD), also called implant-supported bridges, use surrounding teeth as abutments for the direct support of the denture.

FPDs restore a few missing teeth with two dental implants in a row.

Unlike complete and removable partial dentures, implant-supported bridges are not removable.

These permanent dentures restore one or more lost teeth in a row when natural healthy teeth are current on both sides of the missing teeth.

• Removable Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures (RPD) restore some missing teeth. An RPD consists of artificial teeth connected to a plastic, gum-colored base.

Removable partial dentures are constructed onto a cast metal framework for stability. They reform the natural look, feel, and function of your teeth.

RPDs can be pulled at any time and replaced quickly. They are generally recommended for patients who aren’t suitable candidates for an implant-supported bridge.

• Implant-Retained Dentures (Overdentures)

Implant-retained dentures bond into place and lock onto abutments (metal posts). These dentures restore more than one tooth and an entire set of teeth.

They improve stability and enhance chewing function better than conventional dentures. However, you must pull them for cleaning and gum tissue rest every night.

• Immediate Dentures

After removing your teeth, you must wait at least two months before traditional dentures are fitted. This allows the extraction area and jawbone enough time to recover.

Removable immediate dentures are set straight after your natural teeth are pulled.

Although convenient, immediate dentures are more complicated than traditional dentures because they are not molded to your gums. They also don’t look realistic and require more care.

What Should I Expect From Removable Dentures?

After getting your dentures, your dentist will give you detailed instructions on caring for and maintaining your dentures for longer. Initially, your dentist will request you to use your dentures to familiarise you with them and determine any issues you may have. If everything goes well or the essential changes or adjustments are made, you should pull your dentures at night.

Dentures are not a one-time solution. Over time they will become flexible or require refitting as your mouth will change. The material used to create your dentures also specifies how long they will last and how sufficiently you follow care and hygiene instructions counts.

Dentures are a simple and budget-friendly dental procedure for missing teeth. The results are good and can last long if cared for properly.
